Suzana Purković was born in Belgrade in 1986. In childhood, known for being introverted and a child who was inclined to painting and writing, often “in her fantasy world”, at the age of 12 she decided that film directing would be what she would do in life. The film that encouraged this decision was James Cameron’s film “Titanic”, which was the biggest spectacle at the time. She instantly fell in love with the size of the project, the dedication of the crew and the grandiosity of the idea. At the age of 12, she didn’t really know anything about directing or the process itself, and that was the key moment when she became interested in position called director, as she said at the time “the man behind it all and who thought it all up”. That profession pretty much coincided with her character, who always liked to be in her own world and to put something out of herself on paper, canvas, and in this case, on the movie screen. After that decision, her self-taught approach to films and screenwriting begins. As is usually the case, the road is never one-way. Before enrolling in film direction, she enrolled in the Faculty of Law, which she attended for a year until she dared to say “No” to that system and dared to enroll in film direction course. In 2005, she enrolled in film directing at the Academy of Arts in the class of professor Slobodan Šijan. She was lucky enough that the professors at the Academy changed every year, so she was able to gather not only different knowledge but also different views on directing. Already in her second year of college, professor Ratiborka Duda Ćeramilac took her as her assistant and introduced her to work and set life. Suzana starts working at the age of 20, first as a volunteer, then as a third assistant director, very quickly she gets the position of second assistant director as well as the position of first assistant director. Already at the age of 26, she directed 70 episodes of the family series “Sinđelići”, produced under the license of the famous Spanish series “Los Serranos”.

For many years she was the first assistant director and worked with over 20 directors where she was again lucky to meet many directing approaches and visions, as well as many actors. Suzana has over 25 projects that she worked on as the first assistant director, starting from projects in the studio through projects in the field, various series and films, music videos and advertises. She has gained a lot of craft and technical knowledge and is endowed with excellent knowledge of the pre-production process, production and post-production. And she loves every part of it. It should be noted that she also worked for a year in a casting agency, where she had the opportunity to get to know the processes of working with actors for casting, which served her well later in her career.

The year 2021 is a key year in the turning point of her career because she makes the decision that she no longer wants to be an assistant, but wants to build herself as a director. That year, she was offered to film 3 seasons of the sitcom “Aviondžije”. It would later turn out that Aviondzije would have 11 seasons, which meant a lot to her career as a developing director.

In 2022, she gets an opportunity to film her first feature films and tv seeries on the idea of producer Saša Mirković based on the life of the famous Serbian folk singer. That year, she made 2 films – created from the series, and 12 episodes of the series “Torn”. The following projects are announced, which will be more based on her style and ideas as an author.

What inspires Suzana the most in her work as a director is working with actors, the possibility and magic of bringing visions and ideas to life through people and scenes. What she likes about this job is the fact that each project is different and deals with different topics, which requires her to constantly research the world, situations, circumstances, rules and segments of life that many people don’t have contact with. Tireless in researching and working on herself, in the desire to make every next project better and to win her own medal in every next film that she strives for, she is someone who is constantly looking for new ideas, for a better way of expressing herself and inner voice. Her greatest wish is that in the future her films will be original, a product of her inner world, that “world of hers” that she carried around as a child. In all of this, she knows that something like this requires a team of people who make working on the project feel like a family. Therefore, her approach to work is actually an approach to life, because for her this job is the realization of her life’s dream. Seing her inner world screened and presented, spreading ideas and way of expression is her lifelong wish.
